Dreaming of a White 3.8

With Evocati fully underway in testing the newest major patch for Star Citizen 3.8, leaked images and video give the commoner glimpses of whats to come. In what we can safely presume is a beautiful looking microTech, a mostly snowy covered planet, V1 of the weather system looks promising.

As a few go about there day receiving the new leaks as they check there social media profiles once a day, others are smashing the F5 button hoping to be the first in a race against ones sanity. Regardless, all of us are equally hopeful 3.8 is pushed to the PU before the developers go on vacation, or the very least opening up the PTU for everyone.

What am I most looking forward to in 3.8?

There are a few things that I am happy to see come with patch 3.8, some are new additions while others are fixes. The first would be the persistence bed logout, there are a lot of ships it is not working for such as my current daily driver, the Vanguard Sentinel. Not being able to logout from your bed and then when you come back and log back in and then get an error that you previous bed location cannot be found sucks, logging out from the bed has been so convenient.

MicroTech of course is the main attraction of 3.8 and the leaked images have looked fantastic so far. Just today I saw some fields of flowers with the white snowy mountains in the distant background. The weather system, most notable the snow storm looked great so far, especially considering it is V1. I also saw a image of the sand storms on Hurston but I have yet to see any video footage of it.

SSOCS (Server Side Object Container Streaming) is another big step towards the game development moving into the Beta phase. Version 1 is also coming with patch 3.8. SSOCS will allow the servers to load and unload objects based on your location and lower the amount of memory needed to be used by the servers. Currently the PU is being bottle-necked by the amount of loaded assets, the devs have stated a few times. Technologies like SSOCS and Server Meshing are needed to move forward with full persistence and no more wipes, to build the game to the massive scale Chris Roberts has said it’s going to be.

Changes I want to see

Of course there are changes I would like to see, even if it is not in 3.8 it is in the year 2020. That would be the Vanguards DPS, which is mainly do to it being a bigger issue when any pilot used Fixed guns Vs Gimbald Assisted. With the Vangaurds having 4 fixed nose guns, it doesn’t make it much of a heavy fighter to say the least. I would love to see the fixed weapons get address if SSOCS can help with that being possible in 2020.
