There is no denying my love for Star Citizen, a game that has so much ambition to accomplish something that has never been don before. To be honest the game has come a long way since I first became a backer, let alone when the original kick-starter campaign first began in 2014.
What is Star Citizen?
Imagine a universe that combines the freedom of exploration, the thrill of combat, and the unique challenge of building a life in space. Star Citizen puts ultimate control in the hands of the player, whether you’re making your way as a cargo hauler, exploring the vastness of space, or scraping out a living outside the law, you will navigate through a mixture of procedurally generated and handcrafted worlds and interact with a variety of characters.
How do you “Join the ‘Verse”?
Before you can jump into the Verse(short for Star Citizens Universe), there is 3 things you will need to do.
- 1. First thing you will need is a Star Citizen account(Enlist), this can be done using the link below. Also, you would be wise to use a referral code during your sign-up, this will grant you an additional 5,000 UEC(in-game currency).

- 2. Next you will need to purchase a Game package, there are a few to choose from, however you will only need the cheapest one to grant you access to the game forever. The 2 basic game packages are for the Aurora and a Mustang that are each $45 USD currently. Please note that you can rent in-game ships and also upgrade your game package at anytime, there are ways to fly more expensive ships without actually spending IRL money. Only a single Game Package is required
- 3. Download the Star Citizen Launcher and install the game. It is highly suggested that you install the game on a SSD and have 16GB of RAM or more.
Things to Know BEFORE you buy a Game Package
Star Citizen is in active development and first started off as a kickstarter. This means that when you buy a game package, you are doing so to support the games development. If you are looking for a fully fleshed out game, then it would be wise to wait. You will encounter bugs and the economy that is currently in-game does get reset from time to time while still in early development.
Following along with the development and the kindness the community brings is more than half the fun right now, the other half is the “full” game we are all so anxious to play.
Recommendations
- Watch Twitch Streams to see and ask further questions before you spend money
- Look to play with friends or Join a ORG and find people to play with
- Do missions in-game to earn UEC, which will allow you to rent in-game ships you can test.
- Once the game is further along in development, there will be no more wipes and the UEC you earn will be yours to keep for the foreseeable future. This would also mean the ships you rent/buy in-game would also remain yours.
- Visit the Reddit community, Discord Community, Official Website and Social Media platforms to find more information about the current state of the game.
- Use the in-game chat to see anyone can line you a certain ship you would like to test fly, the Star Citizen community is very nice overall.
- Overall just remember this is in active developmen and if you get tilted over bugs, then this isn’t a game for you just yet.
